What the Fitness Assessment Measures

We build your training plan from objective movement data — not a generic template. Your session covers five areas that affect performance, recovery, and longevity.

Biomechanics & Muscle Function

How your joints track, how muscles fire, and whether you can hold good positions under load.

Conditioning Capacity

How you tolerate short, intense efforts and steady work — so programming matches your current engine.

Strength & Work Capacity

Your current strength and endurance relative to your goals, with clear priorities for what to build next.

Mobility & Flexibility

Joint range and tissue quality that may limit lifts, running, or class movements — and how to improve them.

Functional Patterns

How you squat, hinge, press, pull, lunge, and brace when real-world movements come together.

A Map, Not a Score

This is a diagnostic map. We find the safest, most effective path from where you are to where you want to go.

Assessment Options

During booking, choose the focus that matches your goals. Most members start with the Comprehensive Assessment — specialized options are available when you have a clear primary goal.

Comprehensive Assessment

Recommended for most clients. Integrates FMS, Y-Balance, 3DMAPS, FRC / Kinstretch, and strength-conditioning principles across major movement patterns. Best broad foundation for Personal Training or Fitness Classes.

Mobility & Control

For stiffness, restricted positions, or limited range. Focuses on hips, ankles, shoulders, and thoracic spine — pairs well with Rehab Training.

Fitness Classes Readiness

For people preparing for coach-led group classes. Reviews squat/hinge, overhead and front-rack positions, pulling strength, Olympic-lift foundations, and interval tolerance — plus clear scaling guidance.

FMS & Y-Balance

Standardized screens for asymmetries and movement limitations. Ideal when you want scored patterns and a prioritized corrective plan.

Running Assessment

Cadence, posture, foot strike, hip/ankle mobility, and single-leg stability — for runners who want efficiency and durable mileage.

Senior Assessment

Balance, gait, grip, posture, and floor-to-stand confidence for adults focused on independent, strong movement. All tests are gentle and scaled.

Fitness Test Specific

ACFT, FBI PFT, and similar exams — we replicate event demands and identify the limiting factors to train before test day.

Y-Balance testing helps us measure reach, control, and side-to-side balance.

What Members Say

“The assessment showed exactly why my knees hurt every time I squatted. We changed my stance, added a few mobility drills, and within a month I was squatting deeper with no pain.”

Shayla — Alexandria personal training client

“I was nervous about group classes. The readiness assessment gave me a clear roadmap for what I could do safely. My coach always has a scaling option ready, and I’ve been able to push hard with confidence.”

Di Mac — Fitness Classes member, Old Town

“We ran an ACFT-style assessment, figured out where I was weakest, and built a plan around those events. On test day I passed comfortably.”

Fitness Assessment FAQ

Can I start Personal Training or Fitness Classes before an assessment?

Yes. Many members begin training right away. The assessment gives your coaches a detailed map so programming and scaling fit your body from the first weeks.

How is this different from the Starter Pack?

The Fitness Assessment is a dedicated diagnostic session — we slow down, test, and analyze. The Starter Pack bundles the assessment with corrective work, nutrition with an InBody scan, and a full personal training session as a four-session foundation. See pricing on each service’s own page.

Which assessment type should I choose?

If you are unsure, choose the Comprehensive Assessment. It gives the broadest picture and still lets us emphasize mobility, class readiness, running, or test prep. Specialized options fit when you already have a clear primary goal.

How long does the session take?

Plan for about 45 minutes. Exact time depends on your goals and how many patterns we need to test — we stay focused on what applies to you.

Will I get written results?

You receive clear verbal feedback during the session and a summary of key findings and priorities. For scored tools like FMS / YBT or test-specific work, we may also share scoring notes you can use as you train.

How often should I retest?

Most people retest about every three months to measure progress and update the plan. Preparing for a test date or returning from injury may call for a different timeline.

Can I book if I am dealing with pain or injury?

Yes — that is a strong reason to assess. We work around current limitations, avoid provocative positions, and use what we see to recommend Rehab Training, mobility work, or standard Personal Training.

Is this only for advanced athletes?

No. We assess beginners returning to training, experienced class athletes, military and federal personnel, and older adults across Alexandria, Kingstowne, Springfield, Arlington, and Northern Virginia. Every test is scaled to you.

What if my main goal is weight loss?

We still map strength, conditioning, and movement quality so training burns effort efficiently and joints stay happy. From there we can connect you with Nutrition Coaching for the nutrition side.
